I am committed to helping Marylanders in District 37A to live longer, healthier lives as well as to ensuring universal access to affordable , high-quality health care. In addition, I am determined to continue fighting to preserve and protect Medicare and Medicaid.

GOALS

• Promotion of insurance reform by guaranteeing access to both needed health care providers and emergency services, by ensuring the confidentiality of medical records, and by simplifying the grievances and appeals processes
• Enablement of District 37A Marylanders from ages 62 to 65 and displaced homemakers from ages 55 to 65 to purchase Medicare health coverage
• Enablement of retired workers from 55 to 65 to buy COBRA coverage if their former employer drops their coverage
• Support of reimbursement policies not to overpay providers so as to reduce unnecessary medical costs
• Restriction of children's access to tobacco products by adding a health fee to each pack, by requiring an end to tobacco-company marketing targeted at children, and by requiring tobacco companies to pay for new efforts to prevent smoking
• Continued funding of the public school lunch program
